Jim Boeheim: Thibodeau ‘very excited’ to potentially coach Melo
Before Carmelo Anthony was a star in the NBA, we all remember the run he had during his only college season with the Syracuse Orange under the tutelage of coach Jim Boeheim. Numerous reports have come out about Melo’s next destination after opting out of his deal, and the Chicago Bulls continue to pop up as a potential landing spot. Additionally, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau has reportedly been doing his homework on Melo, and apparently has liked what he’s heard, according to Boeheim:
“I’ve talked to Tom about Melo, his name has come up,’’ Boeheim told The New York Post. “I think Tom is very excited about the possibility of getting Carmelo. He likes him. He likes how he plays. He feels he’s coachable. I think Tom Thibodeau is one of the better coaches in the NBA. Carmelo would be happy playing for him. It would be a good fit — the coach-player relationship.’’
This doesn’t surprise me from any perspective. Boeheim has been notoriously known as one of Melo’s biggest supporters throughout his career, and undoubtedly had nothing but praise about his former player. For Thibodeau and the Bulls, they know at this point after their offensive struggles last year that Melo is the exact kind of player they need in order to become a contender.
You put that all into a pot and mix it, and Melo to the Bulls makes a whole bunch of sense. Don’t quite count the Knicks out yet though; they aren’t as bad of a choice as some people may think.
