Knicks J.R. Smith Fires Back At Paul Pierce
Since leaving the Boston Celtics for the Brooklyn Nets, Paul Pierce hasn’t been quiet about his thoughts on the team’s in-state rival New York Knicks.
Not long ago, Pierce re-ignited the war of words between the two teams.
“(I hate the Knicks) with a passion,” Pierce told Complex Magazine. “Let’s start it up right now. Let’s start the beef. It’s no secret that me and New York got history. It’s no secret.”
He also said that the Nets are going to take over as New York’s team.
Since these comments, players like Raymond Felton have responded, but today some serious smack talk was laid down by a guy who’s no stranger to smack talk himself, Knicks guard JR Smith.
Here’s more via ESPN NY:
“(Pierce) doesn’t really know what New York is all about,” Smith told ESPN New York’s Ian Begley. “Just know that his words have consequences and he’s going to have to pay for them.”
According to the ESPN New York article, Smith spoke without anger in his voice.
“They’re in one borough, we’re all over. So it’s like, you’re on an island and we’ve got the whole country. So it’s nothing really to even talk about,” Smith said at a PGA Foundation golf clinic at Chelsea Piers for the New York/New Jersey Boys & Girls Club.
The Nets and Knicks both made upgrades in the offseason. Brooklyn traded for former Celtics Pierce and Kevin Garnett, signed free-agent Andrei Kirilenko and hired ex-Knick Jason Kidd as its head coach.
The Knicks acquired Andrea Bargnani in a trade with Toronto and signed Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih.
