Lakers A Potential Landing Spot For Deron Williams?
After an eventful second season in Brooklyn, the Nets have a plethora of interesting decisions to be made this off-season. The team may lose both Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, their two most prominent additions last season, to retirement and free agency respectively. However, their toughest decision may come with point guard Deron Williams, who has been disappointing overall since being traded to Brooklyn from Utah. As reports have emerged that Williams is frustrated in Brooklyn, so has the million dollar question: should the Nets look to trade Williams this off-season?
If they are going to trade Williams, now would be the time, as draft night is a popular night for transactions. They could potentially have an interested trade partner, as a report suggest that the Los Angeles Lakers may have Williams ‘on their radar’
According to a report from the International Business Times, the Los Angeles Lakers have put Nets point guard Deron Williams on their radar:
“Mitch Kupchak says he is willing to trade current pick (1-9) for good offer. Also wants to trade for another pick for middle/late 1st round,” Mark Medina of Los Angeles Daily News last week.
Another target for the Lakers is veteran point guard Deron Williams, who has been subpar for the past two seasons in Brooklyn. Williams, former perennial All-Star, wants to get out from his current situation with the Nets in hope of reviving his career with a championship contender team.
I would think the decisions of Garnett and Pierce would largely influence the Nets decision whether to move Williams or not, because whether its true or not, the Nets seem to believe they can contend with the core that was put together this past off-season. If one or both leave, lets pretend that this trade happens and put our GM hats on.
Trade: Lakers trade 2014 1st round pick (most likely the sixth pick), Pau Gasol via sign and trade, to the Nets for Deron Williams.
