Report: Anthony asked what it was like to play for Bulls’ coach Thibodeau

carmelo 3It’s official: the New York Knick are eliminated from the playoffs. Perhaps even more shocking is, this marks the first time in his 11-year NBA career that  Carmelo Anthony will miss the playoffs. This brings up a question–What will Melo decide to this summer?

If Melo does choose not to pick up his player option–which, at this point, appears to be expected–the Bulls look to be the front-runner for the NBA veteran. A player with the caliber of Anthony belongs in big city and Chicago seems to be a good fit, and with Anthony speaking with Bulls’ head coach Tom Thibodeau, the rumors of Anthony being interested in playing for Chicago become a greater possibility of actually  happening.

From Frank Isola of New York Daily News:

Carmelo Anthony recently approached a former Chicago Bulls player and asked a loaded question that should make Phil Jackson a little nervous.

“What is it like to play for Thibs?” Anthony said.

Isola also notes this can be interpreted several ways, though, as Melo will work with Thibodeau, who was announced last June to coach the USA Basketball team. Melo is, possibly, just interested in doing a background check of the coach he will soon be working with.

Friday, Melo complemented Thibodeau, as well as his players, too:

When asked on Friday why the Bulls have survived losing key players while the Knicks haven’t, Anthony said: “I have no clue. Thibs is a great coach, his system kind of reminds me of Gregg Popovich’s system.

“You put anybody in that system and it’s going to work. That’s what they’ve been doing. They’ve had guys sitting out all season long, guys that’s been in and out of the lineups and they seem to get it done.”

In the 2013-2014 season, Anthony has averaged 27.6 points per-game, 8.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
