The Islanders had gambled a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft to obtain the rights to Boyle from the San Jose Sharks. It was a tactic that worked when the team acquired the rights to, then agreed a long term contract with Washington Capitals goaltender Jaroslav Halak.
But it seems that the 37-ear old veteran defender doesn’t see the Islanders as a fit and now the Islanders will attempt to reclaim the draft pick they originally gave to the Sharks by trading his rights to another team.
