Rumor: Stoudemire/Shumpert to Sixers?
The Sixers are currently sitting on $30 million in cap space. Will they be going after huge names in free agency like Lebron or Melo? No. But they have enough cap space to be able to get chess pieces from other teams. And according to Steven A. Smith (take it for what it’s worth), the Knicks are interested.
During his show, First Take, ESPN’s Smith said the Knicks and Sixers have been in contact about a deal that would send Amare Stoudemire and Iman Shumpert to Philadelphia. Not much is known what the Knicks would receive in return because this would be a cap freeing move for New York.
This move with Philadelphia would clear up roughly $25 million in cap space, and potentially allow them to chase another prime free agent. But the question stands, would it be a good move for the Sixers to use the majority of it’s cap space to get the 6′ 5″, 220 pound shooting guard who posted career lows last season (6.7 points and 4.2 rebounds)?
Steven A. Smith made it seem like the conversations between the Knicks and Sixers weren’t as serious as some would hope and maybe they deal could be slim, but sources around the league believe that the Sixers could make out like bandits with a team that is trying to clear up cap space.
