Sabres claim Konopka off waivers
The Buffalo Sabres have been searching for some veterans and it seems as though they have finally found some much-needed veteran leadership to join the team.
After being placed on the Waivers by the Minnesota Wild, the Sabres claimed forward Zenon Konopka. In 36 games played with the Wild this season, Konopka has just one goal and one assist. The Sabres claimed Zenon following the Sabres 4-1 loss to the Wild Thursday Night.
Konopka signed with the Wild before the 2012-13 season, after being a free agent in July 2012. Before joining the Wild, Konopka played with the Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lighting, The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Anaheim Ducks. In his Career, Konopka has scored 12 goals, 17 assists and 29 points.
The 33-year-old veteran has 55 penalty minutes this season, leading the Wild, and is in the final year of his two-year contract.
While Konopka may not score too many goals for the Sabres, he does, however, excel at faceoffs, as Konopka as won 65.7 percent of his faceoffs. The Sabres have won just 46 percent of their faceoffs, ranking them 28th in the league.
The Buffalo Sabres are scheduled to return to practice Friday afternoon, as they prepare to take on the Devils on Saturday.
