It was a sight to see yesterday in Orchard Park, New York. “Super” Mario Williams broke a franchise and person record yesterday against the Carolina Panthers, when no one could stop him getting to Cam Newton. Williams had 4.5 sacks on the Panther QB.

No Bills player has had four sacks in a game since Bruce Smith shredded the offensive line of the Houston Oilers back in 1994, 19 years ago.

In a post game interview Williams spoke on his physical and mental strength.

“Physically, I feel great and mentally I’m better than ever. I’m just going out there and playing ball, staying calm. I’m probably one of the calmest persons you’ll ever meet. I just go out there and try to make it happen.”

This is great news for the Bills fan base, considering the injuries last season and even this preseason to the near $100 million defensive end.

Williams’ feat obviously did not go unnoticed with emotional head coach Doug Marrone.

“I saw power in rushing that passer. He was around. I told him afterwards, ‘Hey don’t dance with this guy early let’s go and close the distance, make a move and go.’ I thought he did a very good job of that.”

Super Mario’s only problem, stemming back to his days with the Houston Texans, is consistency. Can Williams get multiple sacks in a game every week? That’s something to keep an eye on.
