Andris Biedrins accused of tax evasion, could face jail time

Things don’t seem to be going all too well for big man Andris Biedrins.

The 7 footer on the Warriors reportedly owes $20,000 in taxes in his native Latvia. This shouldn’t seem like a huge deal; he made $9 million last season, and will make another $9 million this upcoming season. So he can pay the bill. The problem?

This comes with a possibility of 5 years of jail time.

Just days earlier, Andris Biedrins wasn caught in an automobile in a somewhat questionable position with a female.

The Warriors seem to be moving on from the Biedrins era, although he will still take a heavy hit on their cap. The big man averaged less than 2 points and 4 rebounds last season in only 16 minutes per game. With Andrew Bogut getting healthy, Biedrins minutes will probably be even more limited this season.

Andris Biedrins is just a few seasons removed from being a very productive center. He averaged around 10 points and 10 rebounds per game from 2006-2009.

The Warriors are going with a youth movement, and it seems like he isn’t a big part of their plans.

But more importantly for him, let’s hope Andris Biedrins can get this figured out and avoid jail time. I don’t know what the prisons are like in Latvia, but I imagine that they are not very fun.
