Bobcats Land Ben Gordon
Two days before draft day, we have another notable deal in the NBA.
The Bobcats have acquired shooting guard Ben Gordon from the Detroit Pistons for small forward Corey Maggette and a protected first round pick.
This comes after the Bobcats missed out on the number one overall pick, and thus the right to pick Anthony Davis, after a historically awful season. They still hold the number 2 overall pick, although it’s unclear if they intend to trade down.
Gordon never really found his place in Detroit, which was a place where underachievers seemed to gather. He has two years left on his deal, and it gives the team an established veteran shooter who can help them rebuild. He’ll certainly have an expanded role on the Bobcats, which maybe is a blessing in disguise for him.
Acquiring Maggette was a financial transaction for Detroit, who is going nowhere any time soon.
We’ll see what the Bobcats do from here, but acquiring Ben Gordon is certainly a good start.
