Rajon Rondo Tore His ACL

News came out right before the Boston Celtics/Miami Heat matchup that Rajon Rondo would be sitting out due to a knee injury. This was a bit surprising, since you know that these are the games that Rondo circles on his calender at the beginning of the season.

As the engine of the team, it’s tough for the Celtics to flourish with Rondo on the bench. Reportedly, the Celtics are fearing the worst for their All-Star point guard. As in, a torn ACL that would sideline Rondo for the rest of the season.

It’s too early to know anything definite, but this is potentially awful news for the Celtics. They can’t compete long-term without him, and really lack a true point guard that can replace him. Courtney Lee and Avery Bradley can fill the role in very short stints, but they lack another ball handling play maker.

Rajon Rondo was named an All-Star starter, averaging 14 points, 11 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.

We’ll keep you updated with any more news.

UPDATE:

This has since been confirmed. Rajon Rondo will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.
