Chris Paul Preferred to be Traded to Clippers, not Lakers

We all remember the mess that was the Chris Paul saga prior to last season. The Los Angeles Lakers had agreed to a deal with the league-owned Hornets to bring the stud point guard to town with Kobe Bryant. Well, because the Hornets were league-owned, commissioner David Stern had the power to veto the deal in the best interest of the Hornets. And he did.

Soon after, Chris Paul was dealt to the neighboring Los Angeles Clippers. Most people perceived that the Lakers were Paul’s first option, as they boast Kobe Bryant, and the notion as “the” team in Los Angeles. Well, that’s not true. According to CP3, anyway.

According to ESPN:

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul, who is featured on the covers of October’s GQ , told the magazine he actually preferred being traded to the Clippers rather than the Los Angeles Lakers last year.

“They had the better pieces,” Paul said. “And winning with the Clippers would be legendary.”

He does have some legitimate points. The thrill of bringing a championship to the Los Angeles Clippers, a team that had been the laughing stock of the NBA, would be amazing. Or in his words, legendary.

Not to mention, a young Blake Griffin was probably more suitable to Chris Paul’s playing style than an older Kobe Bryant.

This should be taken with a grain of salt, remembering that he is currently a member of the Clippers, and to say that he preferred the Lakers would be kind of strange.

We’ll see how much he likes the Clippers after his contract runs out at the end of the year.
