Daryl Morey: Lakers Have No Chance Of Beating Spurs
After losing Kobe Bryant to an Achilles injury, the Los Angeles Lakers rallied behind Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol to slide into the playoff picture. The bad news is that they got the 7 seed, meaning they have to go up against the San Antonio Spurs.
Despite their dynamic frontline duo, not many are giving the Lakers much of a chance to win the series, or even to make it terribly competitive. This was a thin team even with Bryant, and their guard play doesn’t look to stand much of a chance against that of the Spurs.
Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey agrees, as he doesn’t think the Lakers have any sort of chance against the Spurs. Via My San Antonio:
Count Houston general manager Daryl Morey among the Spurs’ biggest supporters in their first-round series against the Lakers. He gave the latter no chance to beat the former when asked about the matchup in an interview with SportsTalk 790 AM in Houston.
Morey’s segment begins at about the 36-minute mark, with the Spurs question at around 45:30.
Radio host: “Do you give the Lakers any chance of beating San Antonio?”
Morey: “No. None…The Spurs are, I think they’re going to be machine-like against the Lakers, I really do.”
Well, at least he isn’t beating around the bush, right?
Daryl Morey isn’t the only one around who shares this belief. A lot of people would be surprised if this series went longer than 5 or 6 games.
However, you can never fully count out a team that has two big men as good as Howard and Gasol. It gives them at least a fighter’s chance.
