After reaching an agreement with the Orlando Magic on a contract buyout, Glen Davis has already found his next destination. Reports confirm that Glen Davis signed with the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday and could suit up later tonight when the team faces the New Orleans Pelicans. The Brooklyn Nets were also reportedly interested in his services and actually waited on him  before they signed Jason Collins. This is a good move for the Clippers for a few reasons.

First of all, this reunites Davis with Doc Rivers, whom he played for in Boston. Davis is a guy who Rivers will know how to implement into his system right away and use properly.

Secondly, Glen Davis is still one of the better reserve power forwards in the NBA averaging 12.1 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Even though he was starting for the Magic, he is really a reserve big man on a contending team. This moves Glen Davis back towards his more natural role of being a guy who can come off the bench and give you quality minutes while your starters rest.

Lastly, the Clippers need a quality big man coming off the bench. After Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, the bench is pretty thin in the front court, with only Ryan Hollins as a viable option at center and maybe Hedo Turkoglu and Matt Barnes at the power forward position in smaller packages. The point is, this move gives the Clippers a legit back up power forward for Blake Griffin, which is huge.

In closing, this move is really a nice one for the Clippers because Davis knows Rivers and his system, he’s moving back into a role where he is best suited, and the Clippers need a quality big man coming off the bench. It may not put the Clippers over the top and into the NBA Finals, but this is the kind of move that championship teams make when they are looking for ways to make a push.
