Golden State Warrior declares himself and Steph Curry two of “the best to ever play”
Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, those are some of the names that come to mind when you think “greatest of all time”. Should we add the name of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to that list? Klay Thompson seems to think so.
A few years ago, when the Golden State Warriors were still under the direction of Mark Jackson, Jackson boldly declared Curry and Thompson “the greatest shooting backcourt in the history of the game.” At the time it was a head scratcher of a comment, it was just Thompson’s sophomore season, and Curry was only in his fourth year. Now after seeing Curry win an MVP, and the two standing next to eachother as reigning NBA champs, its hard to disagree.
But to announce Steph Curry and himself as some of the greatest to ever play the game is a bit much. While speaking with a Chinese reporter at an event to which Thompson was launching his new Anta sneaker, he answered questions with complete confidence regarding the Splash Brothers being the “best shooting duo” of all-time.
“I agree, I think so,” Thompson said. “You know, Steph is one of the best to ever play. I think I’m right there by him. We both led the NBA in 3s, we were No. 1 and 2. I don’t know if that has ever happened on the same team.
“I think we are the best shooting backcourt, maybe of all-time. We still got a lot to prove and I still think we are just scratching the surface of what we can be.”
It’s hard to come up with a better current day shooting backcourt. Curry led the league in three point field goals made last season, Klay Thompson came in second in that category. The two combined are a lethal combo, the Cleveland Cavaliers found that out the hard way.
But to jump on board believing that the names of Steph Curry and Klay Thomspon should be in the same sentence as Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, not a chance.
