Heat Planning To Pursue Carmelo Anthony In Free Agency; Form ‘Big Four’
If you are one of those people who cringed when LeBron James joined forces with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in South Beach to form the now two-time defending champion Miami Heat, you want want to stop reading now. Apparently, the Big Three isn’t quite enough for Pat Riley and Heat management, and they will pursue New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony in free agency this off-season as well:
Sources told ESPN.com that Heat officials and the team’s leading players have already started to explore their options for creating sufficient financial flexibility to make an ambitious run at adding New York Knicks scoring machine Carmelo Anthony this summer in free agency.
Anthony has a player option this season that he can opt out and test free agency, as do James, Wade and Bosh. However, each player would have to take a pay-cut in order for this dream team to form, which may be a deal-breaker.
The addition of Anthony would certainly be interesting, and watching the Heat figure out the dynamic between four potential hall of famers in or just past their prime would be entertainment enough.
All I know is that if the Heat sign Melo, they MUST sign Darko as well, and just have a complete 2003 NBA Draft reunion.
