Jason Kidd will not be returning to Dallas after all, it appears. According to a source, veteran point guard Jason Kidd will be signing with the New York Knicks.
This comes days after prized possession Deron Williams announced his return to the Nets.
Kidd and Williams had both talked openly of their friendship and how they might enjoy playing together. Many speculated that Kidd would back up Williams in Brooklyn, as both have some sort of relationship with the Nets.
The New York Knicks have been very shaky at point guard ever since the loss of Chauncey Billups. Restricted free agent Jeremy Lin energized the team while Carmelo Anthony was injured. It’s unclear if Lin will be returning to the team, or if they are still making a run at Steve Nash. In either scenario, it is likely that Kidd will be a backup.
It was believed all day that Kidd was resigning with Dallas, but had a sudden change of heart.
Jason Kidd averaged 6 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds last season for the Dallas Mavericks. While he clearly isn’t the dynamic player he once was, he proved he can still be a vital piece on a championship team. Jason Kidd was the starting point guard on the Dallas Mavericks team that beat the Miami Heat in the NBA finals.
This won’t solve the point guard troubles in New York, but it’ll help a little.
