Jeremy Evans: I Would Beat LeBron In Dunk Contest
LeBron James made news recently when he announced that he will not participate in a dunk contest, something many had held out hope for. Last year’s winner, Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz, took the opportunity to take a subtle jab at the best player in the world.
Evans has had a hard time seeing consistent time for the Jazz this season, but this didn’t stop him from showing off his confidence of how he would stack up with LeBron in a dunk contest. Via Fox Sports:
The Utah Jazz forward is the defending NBA slam-dunk champion. He has no doubt who would win if he had the chance to take on James.
“I’m going to say I would,” said Evans, whose Jazz fell 105-89 to Miami at AmericanAirlines Arena. “I haven’t seen any tricks from him yet because he hasn’t been in (an NBA) dunk contest. … You need the tricks and moves rather than just being a power dunker in a game.”
Unfortunately, we’ll never get to see for real, as LeBron will not be a participant in a dunk contest.
You have to wonder what the competition could be like if the league’s elite athletic talents participated like they used to. Imagine the likes of LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Josh Smith, etc. going at it year after year? No disrespect to the guys that participate in it now, but it’s certainly lost some star power with bench players like Jeremy Evans taking part.
