Jim Boheim Ejected as Ref Makes Controversial Call at the End of the Game
Duke defeated Syracuse Saturday night with a questionable call late in the game.
Syracuse forward C.J Fair took the lane with 10.4 seconds left and a chance to tie the game. He made the layup and it appeared he might have been an and one, which would put Syracuse up by one if he made the free throw. Instead, referee Tony Greene blew his whistle and called Fair for a charge against Rodney Hood.
This call was too much for Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim. He exploded off the bench and argued the call with the ref. His behavior got him a quick technical, and as he continued to argue, he was thrown out of the game. The Hall of Fame coach has never been ejected from a regular season game before tonight, but this call with the game on the line set him off the edge.
After the game Boheim said “I thought it was the worst call of the year. That’s all”
The technical and free throws helped Duke win it 66-60.
The last time these two teams faced each other, Syracuse won it on a questionable call in overtime. Duke definitely got their revenge Saturday night, and coach Boheim won’t be forgetting this one for a while.
Calling Fair for the charge was controversial, and ultimately decided the game. Here’s the video of the play. Charge or block? You decide.
