John Wall Signs 5 Year, $80M Max Contract Extension With Wizards
It’s official: John Wall is the designated franchise player of the Washington Wizards. Michael Lee of the Washington Post is reporting that John Wall has signed a 5 year, $80M max contract extension with the Washington Wizards. The Wizards are putting all their money on John Wall being the man that can take them to the promised land and finally bring back championship level basketball to our nation’s capital.
Is he worth that kind of money? I don’t know if he is, but he definitely is worth it for the Wizards. He and Bradley Beal could end up forming one of the better backcourts in the NBA and with the way that the NBA is so point guard driven, a potentially elite point guard like John Wall is something that the Wizards had to make sure they retained. Now it is time for the Wizards to prove to John Wall that not only do they have a lot of faith in him, but that he should have a lot of faith in them. They need to start putting together a team that can compete and contend for championships or at least be capable of making deep runs into the playoffs. Everybody seems to think that signing John Wall to a max contract is a huge gamble for the Wizards, but in reality committing to the Wizards for the long-term is a huge gamble for John Wall. The Wizards better show him that the gamble on his end is well worth it.
