Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook pitch OKC to top free agent
The NBA’s free agency period kicked off on Tuesday (July 1st) and the bidding wars have begun. We’ve watched as guys like Ben Gordon and Kyle Lowry agreed to deals very quickly. Some of the larger names on the market, such as Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James, have been linked to various teams and some free agents haven’t been linked to anyone.
One of the bigger names on the market is that of former NBA champion, Pau Gasol. The 33-year old Gasol could be on his last tank of gas, and is likely looking to land on a contender. Reports are saying that Gasol has emerged as the frontrunner for OKC, and it’s being reported that Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have made a direct pitch to the Spaniard.

Who better to pitch a big-time free agent than the league MVP and one of the association’s top point guards? The real issue will be talking Pau into taking the midlevel exception, but we’ve seen stranger things thus far in the 2014 NBA Free Agency frenzy. Ben Gordon got $9 million!
Thunder view run at Lakers FA Pau Gasol a “long shot” with only mid-level to offer, but they also believe “its worth a try,” a source says.

Thoughts around the league are that if Pau lands in OKC, the Thunder obviously become a quick favorite to win the west, and perhaps an early favorite for 2015 NBA Champs.
Stay tuned as the drama surrounding Gasol unfolds!
