Kevin Garnett has only played for two NBA teams during his lengthy career; the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Boston Celtics. He won his only championship with the Celtics, and it seems as if he has no plans of leaving.

The 36-year-old KG proved in the playoffs that he could still be a major part of a championship contender, as he led the Celtics and pushed the eventual champion Miami Heat to the brink of elimination. After signing a 3 year deal that will keep him in green and white until he is 39, Kevin Garnett has now said that he will retire as a member of the Boston Celtics.

It makes sense that he would say this; when his contract runs up at 39, is he really going to look for another deal to keep playing? He has a lot of miles on his legs, and it’s doubtful that he would play into his forties.

However, this does beg the question of what will happen to Kevin Garnett if the Celtics blow up their roster after this season, or even the season after that.

Will he want to stick around on a potentially rebuilding team in his late thirties? Will the team even want him around if that’s the situation? Would he retire before that even became a problem? Does this mean Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers are going for it for the next 3 years?

It’s worth thinking about. Then again, we’ve been talking about the Celtics blowing up their roster, along with the Spurs, for the past few years, and last season clearly proved a lot of people wrong.
