LeBron James says Allen Iverson is the greatest player ever
Before you flip out and say “whoa, what about Michael Jordan,” allow me to explain the context of the title. LeBron James believes that Allen Iverson is the greatest pound-for-pound NBA player ever. And ‘Bron might have a point. Allen Iverson by most people’s account was not his listed height of six feet tall. Many have said that Iverson was more like 5-10 or 5-11. This coupled with all of Iverson’s accolades makes the thought of him being under six feet tall even more amazing.

Just days after Miami Heat forward LeBron James listed Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan as his childhood idols, the NBA’s reigning MVP continued to heap praise on the former Philadelphia 76ers star.
“Pound-for-pound, probably the greatest player who ever played,” James said of Iverson, who will retire in a Sixers pregame ceremony ahead of Wednesday’s home opener against the defending champion Heat.
“I watch Jordan more than anybody for sure,” James said in ESPN The Magazine’s NBA Preview Issue. “But I’ll watch tapes of A.I., too. I don’t take anything from A.I.. Well, I do — his will. They say he was 6 feet, but A.I. was like 5-10½. Do we even want to say 160? 170 [pounds]? Do we even want to give him that much weight? And he played like a 6-8 2-guard. He was one of the greatest finishers we’ve ever seen. You could never question his heart. Ever. He gave it his all. A.I. was like my second-favorite player growing up, after MJ.
Over the duration of Iverson’s career, the lightning quick guard scored 24, 368 points – which could have been more had Iverson took on the roll of sixth man in the NBA. Iverson averaged 26.7 points per game during his career, which also could had been higher had it not been for his last two seasons in the NBA when Iverson’s numbers dipped dramatically. All told, Iverson was essentially a two-guard that scored with the best of them despite giving up several inches and weight. James may be right on this one.
