Los Angeles Lakers Reportedly Targeting Luol Deng
Doesn’t every team want a guy like Luol Deng?
For years, he’s been known as an all-around quality player who makes winning plays. It’s a lot of cliches, but there’s really no other way to describe him. He’s shown the ability to play big minutes, guard the opponent’s best scorer on a nightly basis, and score when he needs to. Deng plays within himself, an underrated skill in a league full of offensive-minded players.
The last few months have been a bit of a roller coaster for the small forward. He was traded away from the Chicago Bulls to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he will be a hot commodity in the free agent market this summer.
It looks like he already has one serious suitor.
According to a report, the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in acquiring Deng this summer. There has been plenty of speculation surrounding what the Lakers will do this summer as they try to surround Kobe Bryant with a team capable of competing for a title. Of course, that’s a little tough to do with Kobe’s salary.
Deng would be a great compliment to Kobe as a defender and off the ball offensive weapon. Kobe simply can’t take the challenge of guarding elite scorers every night, and he could use a situational scorer along his side.
Plenty of Lakers fans would be disappointed if Deng is the main prize this summer, as rumors of bigger names have inflated expectations. Carmelo Anthony’s name has been floated around, fans are selling themselves on the idea of Kevin Love in a few years, and a few delusional souls probably think LeBron wants to come to the Lakers.
There should be a pretty solid market for Deng this summer, and we should expect the Lakers to be in the mix.
