NBA All Star Reserves: The Debate

  • PTP Staff

NBA All Star Weekend is slowly but surely sneaking up on us. From the Rookie Sophomore game, to the Slam Dunk Contest, all the way to All Star Sunday Night, All Star weekend is clearly the highlight of the National Basketball Association. LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Carmelo Anthony are the faces of the NBA, When it comes to votes for the All Stars by the fans, they are ranked high and voted in. Players in the past, like Yao Ming, are a example of injury pron players who can make the All Star honor by votes, this year Kobe Bryant is the victim he has only played in 6 games and was voted in as a starter.

That brings me to this, what about the reserves? What about the bench? Each and every single year the Coaching staff from the NBA’s teams vote in the reserves and they honor players who have worked hard to get voted in. Every fan can mention who they want to become NBA All Star’s for this year’s game in New Orleans, However, only a select few should be locked in for a roster slot.

There are many honorable mentions, but players like, Chris Paul, LaMarcus Aldridge we can go as far to say they were All Star snubs. The Clippers (31-15) and the Blazers (33-11) two teams having a fantastic years and Aldridge is unquestioned the Blazers best player. Speaking of Aldridge, its tough to take away from Griffin or Love who are All Star starters, Kevin Love, getting his first All Star start.

What about the Eastern Conference? We could be witnessing history, as the Eastern All Star starters are literally all Guards and Forwards. It’s a bit of a head scratcher, until you look at the names on the back of the jerseys. James, Anthony, George, Wade, Irving. Clearly, Five of the best NBA players in today’s game. This fact aside, we will never know why Roy Hibbert was not a All Star starter, in fact, honorable mentions for the East are simple. Joakim Noah, Andrea Drummond, Chris Bosh, Lance Stephenson, John Wall. And that’s just naming a few.

This reminds me, we also will never know why Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic, coming off a break out campaign has only been mentioned once to be a NBA All Star. In the end this will be another fantastic form of entertainment the NBA excelsis at performing. From All Star snubs, to honorable mentions and NBA All Star starters. February 14th,15th, and 16th we surely be fun to watch. We all know LeBron James and the Eastern Conference will have a exciting time highlighting against another talented Western Conference All Star team.
