NBA All Star Weekend is here, and it is back in fashion, with the 63rd annual NBA All Star Weekend taking place in New Orleans. The Rookie Challenge is the first and one of the highlighted events in the weekend, The Rookie Challenge game was established in 1994, way back when, that game featured players such as PJ Brown, Chris Webber, Toni Kukoc and Rookie Challenge MVP Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway. That sure brings a flash back to most NBA Fan’s.

20 years later, the now titled “BBVA Rising Stars Challenge” is still a working success. In 2012,2013 the NBA and the game was reformatted, and NBA superstars Charles Barkley, and Shaqullie O’neal drafted the top voted rookies and second year players and went head to head. This year, a similar trend took place between, Grant Hill and Chris Webber, (Team Hill, Team Webber). In which Andre Drummond and team Hill ran away with a 142-136 victory, in this high scoring, defensive, yes, defensive game.

Andre Drummond who was the BBVA Rising Stars challenge MVP surely did put on a show with his 30 points and 25 rebounds, but it was a isolate battle between Tim Hardaway Jr, and Dion Waiters that surely was highlighted. In a three minute stretch the battle between the two was hijacking Drummonds performance as the two answered each other with deep three pointers, back to back to back. Hardaway Jr finished with a game high 36 and Waiters 4-6 from deep finished with 31. Kevin Durant, James Harden were just as excited as we were.
