New Orleans Pelicans eyeing Mavs 13th pick, Giannis Adetokunbo?
We already know that the Dallas Mavericks are almost certainly parting ways with their late-lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, so the natural progression is to see who may take the pick off their hands. Details are starting to emerge, and reports out of New Orleans say do not be surprised if the New Orleans Pelicans (which is slowly starting to get a Metta World Peace-ish giggle more and more each time I have to type it) take the pick off the Mavs hands, along with veteran swingman Shawn Marion.
Here are the details courtesy of probasketballtalk.com, and Fletcher Mackel of WDSU TV, the New Orleans NBC affiliate:

While Dallas has their sights set on Chris Paul and Dwight Howard, New Orleans is looking to capitalize and take a risk on an international player with a huge upside. My guess would be that Marion doesn’t last long in New Orleans, and may even be flipped in a later deal, but the risk seems worth taking for the Pelicans.
The curveball in their development as a team will be to find out whether the emergence of Greivis Vazquez last year was a fluke, or a sign of things to come from the young point guard, as well as hoping that Anthony Davis can bounce back from a disappointing, and injury-plagued rookie campaign.
We had Adetokunbo going 19th to the Cavs in our mock draft, but the reasoning for the Pelicans taking him at 13 would be the same; having faith that you already nailed your earlier pick at six, the Pelicans can roll the dice with their second lottery pick. Let’s face it: nobody is expecting the team to contend next year or two, so a Eurostash with Adetokunbo’s potential can be beneficial for the team. I have what I can only classify as a “YouTube man-crush” on the eighteen year old Greek small forward, and whoever takes Adetokunbo may end up with a Nic Batum/Kawhi Leonard hybrid by 2015. Then again, I also had a mini-YouTube man-crush on Bismack Biyombo…
See the kid for yourself, and let the man-crush mania ensue!
