On a dysfunctional Sacramento Kings team, DeMarcus Cousins exemplifies the issue. He’s a very talented player, but can’t seem to keep his cool and put it all together.
Cousins has been putting up pretty big numbers the past few seasons, but has yet to shoot at a percentage that you wold expect out of a post player.
After an incident with O.J. Mayo where Cousins hit Mayo in the groin, the Dallas guard took issue to the Kentucky alum in a very public manner. Via Dallas News:
“Man, that guy has mental issues,” Mayo said. “He’s a talented player. He has an opportunity to be the face of the organization, but I don’t think he wants it.”
Well, this sums it up pretty well.
Mayo is spot on. Cousins has tons of talent; he has the big, strong body of a center, the post game, and the nose for rebounding. There’s a reason he was drafted so high, and it’s because he can potentially be a franchise player.
But if he keeps up the nonsense, his team will lose patience with him.
