Paul Pierce inks a deal with the Wizards
Paul Pierce won’t be returning to Brooklyn next season, but he is staying in the Eastern Conference. Sources have told ESPN.com that Pierce has agreed to a 2 year, $11M deal with the Washington Wizards. This comes after news broke that Trevor Ariza would not be staying with the Wizards after he agreed to a 4 year, $32M deal with the Rockets.
In wake of LeBron James going back to Cleveland, the Eastern Conference has suddenly become much more wide open. One of the teams who really benefits from this more wide open Eastern Conference is the Wizards, who suddenly look like a viable contender after adding Pierce to their team. John Wall and Bradley Beal already have formed one of the more dynamic backcourts in the league to go along with a very formidable front court formed by Nene and Marcin Gortat. Adding a quality veteran swingman like Paul Pierce might be just what the doctor ordered for the Wizards. The one thing this team needed was some veteran leadership and playoff experience, and Pierce provides both of these needs very nicely. This is definitely one of the more interesting free agency moves of the summer and potentially one of the best.
