Pelicans Looking to Trade into First Round
Last year, the New Orleans Pelicans made a big draft day deal when they dealt away two first round picks for point guard Jrue Holiday. One of these picks ended up being Nerlens Noel, and the second pick is their current 2014 first rounder.
First round picks are a valuable commodity, and it looks like the Pelicans are looking to get back into the first round, according to Marc Spears.
Pelicans aggressively trying to trade into 1st round in hopes of drafting a small forward or center, sources say.2014 1st dealt in Jrue deal

Ultimately, the Pelicans acquired Jrue Holiday in exchange for Nerlens Noel and a high pick in this year’s loaded class. That’s a steep price to pay.
According to Spears, the Pelicans are doing this in order to ultimately find a small forward or center. Al-Farouq Aminu simply isn’t good enough as the team’s starting small forward, and it appears as if the Pelicans prefer to use Anthony Davis a power forward rather than at center.
We’ll see if they can find a way to grab a first round pick, but I can’t imagine it being cheap.
