Rajon Rondo responds to reports of him wanting out of Boston
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo and his agent are denying reports of the star guard asking for a trade. ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan said during a behind the scenes segment of Around the Horn, that Rondo wants out despite nobody believing her. ESPN must have not felt comfortable with this report as they have since removed the video, although no explanation has been given yet.
Via Boston Herald:
A spokeswoman for Duffy’s agency said that both men have discussed the reports, and publically deny that any such request was made.
“Neither Bill nor Rajon know where this has come from, but it didn’t come from them,” Alyson Furch said in a text tonight. “They want this on the record. Neither has spoken to anyone about this.”
The denial falls in line with comments by Rondo on several occasions this summer, when he professed a desire to remain with the Celtics. But the veteran guard has also been the frequent subject of trade talks throughout his career. When Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck said that fans could expect “fireworks” this summer, many took that as a reference, in particular, to Rondo.
Not to question Jackie MacMullan’s credibility, but she still thought Isaiah Thomas was a member of the Sacramento Kings. MacMullan also called Ben McLemore the “big kid.” McLemore is measured at 6-5, and weighs only 195 pounds. This is not considered big by NBA standards and plays the shooting guard position. However, it should be noted that MacMullan is well-respected and this was casual talk that took place behind the scenes and not on the actual show. Most of the conversation seemed to be hypothetical scenarios of potential landing spots of Rondo between the columnists. Regardless of the reports, Jackie “Mac” certainly sounded sincere in her claims that Rondo wants out. Only time will tell if Jackie was right or not.
