Report: Anthony Davis bulks up
Anthony Davis has become one of the most intriguing big men in the association. With the ability to score from multiple places on the court, and an almost unmatched defensive game, Davis has catapulted himself into the conversation with guys like Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, and LaMarcus Aldridge.
The biggest knock on Davis is his slim frame. Granted his frame and athletic ability helps him roam the court, while playing help defense. But we all know that in the NBA, big men must possess the ability to bang in the paint, or at the very least, hold their own on the block against strong post players like Zach Randolph. Davis is currently listed at 220 lbs, but has reportedly put on an additional 17 lbs already during the off season.
This tweet comes from Nakia Hogan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune:
#Pelicans PF Anthony Davis has been hitting the weight room pretty hard. Davis is up to 237 pounds and looks strong.

This will go a long ways to making Davis the league’s premiere power-forward (since I assume that is his goal). So long as Davis doesn’t lose that explosive play that already has every opponent on high alert when they enter the paint. Added weight could turn Davis into a scarier, longer, more athletic version of Serge Ibaka. If the idea of that doesn’t make offensive players shutter simply at the thought, then I don’t know what will.
Davis averaged 20.8 points, 10 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game last season. The added bulk should translate nicely into a more complete post game. This kid’s ceiling is incredibly high!
