Report: Royce White did not fly with Sixers to Europe

  • Andy Flint

The Philadelphia 76ers flew to Europe on Thursday morning in an attempt, much like that of Oklahoma City Thunder, who they will play on Tuesday, to broaden their fan base overseas. The Sixers will play Spanish team, Bilbao Basket, on Sunday, but they’ll be without recent acquisition, Royce White, as reports say White did not make the trip.

White, drafted 16th overall by the Houston Rockets back in 2012, has had a longstanding anxiety issue that prevents the versatile power forward from traveling much by plane. Making an 8-hour flight overseas was obviously listed as doubtful for White.

White was traded from Houston to Philadelphia, in what was considered a low-risk move for the Sixers. Philadelphia gave up draft considerations for the former first-round pick, but the question of whether or not he’d join the team on flights had to be the biggest red flag. But wasn’t Royce flying this season not really an issue?

One Response to Report: Royce White did not fly with Sixers to Europe

  • According to Bob Cooney ‏@BobCooney76
White, who suffers from anxiety disorder, planned to make the flight but team “gave him a pass,” source told me.
It seems that the 76ers take a consideration not to risk Royce White for an overseas flight.
Better for RW to prepare for oncoming games in American rather than the 2 pre-season games in Europe.
That is why there’re not too much violent comments on the Unexpected Absence of RW.
