Rick Adelman Will Return To Coach Timberwolves
At the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor appeared to be pretty confident that Rick Adelman was going to return as the team’s head coach in the 2013-14 season despite problems with his wife’s health. Taylor’s confidence has now been backed up by Adelman himself, who has told Taylor that he will return as the head coach for this upcoming season. Taylor relayed this information to the Star Tribune of Minneapolis according to ESPN.com.
Last season, Adelman spent a good chunk of time away from the team to be with his wife, which resulted in Terry Porter acting as interim head coach while Adelman was away. While there were many things that derailed the Timberwolves season last year (such as Kevin Love doing knuckle push-ups and Brandon Roy going down), the absence of Adelman was also significant. The last thing an injury ridden young team like the Timberwolves needed was for their coach to suddenly leave the team due to a family crisis. By having Adelman around the whole season, a lot more continuity and a sense of stability should be felt in the Timberwolves’ locker room, which should hopefully result in more wins and maybe a trip to the playoffs.
