Ricky Rubio unhappy with being benched
Ricky Rubio was benched for the fourth quarter of the T-Wolves 91-83 loss to the Brooklyn Nets and according to Ray Richardson of the Pioneer Press, he was candidly unhappy about it. Rubio told Richardson, “I want to know what happened.” He continued, “We’re going to talk. ‘TP’ preferred to play the other players who were playing. I don’t know what to say, I don’t like it.” The “TP” Rubio refers to is Acting Head Coach Terry Porter.
Rubio has struggled to return to last season form in his return from injury this season. However, it was the first time he hasn’t played in the fourth quarter of a game he has played in this season. When Richardson asked Porter why Rubio was benched in the fourth he said, “It wasn’t something Ricky did. It’s tough decisions in regards to personnel at the end of games, based on who’s hot and who’s not hot. We talked about it and decided to go with J.J.” The last thing the Timberwolves need is their other superstar being unhappy with the team and Terry Porter will need to get his one semi-healthy superstar on the floor to close out games.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the Wolves have a great chance to rebound with two home games this weekend against the Washington Wizards on Friday and the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday.
