Roy Hibbert will pay teammate Lance Stephenson’s fine
Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert is showing that sometimes it literally does pay to be a good teammate. During Tuesdays game with the Golden State Warriors, Hibbert and Warriors forward David Lee were involved in a scuffle that leaked into the stands. Pacers guard, and Hibbert’s teammate, Lance Stephenson, was also involved in the scuffle, though in a minor role.
Hibbert and Lee will each be suspended for a game for their actions, and Stephenson is among three players that were fined $35,000 for the roles they played during the altercation. However, Stephenson won’t have to worry about cutting a check for the fine, as Hibbert has already vowed that he will pay for Stephenson instead, via Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star
Hibbert told The Indy Star that he’s going to pay Lance Stephenson’s $35K fine for being a good teammate and having his back.

This is certainly a very generous gesture by Hibbert, who is not only rewarding Stephenson for having his back, but is also showing he is aware that he and Stephenson are on completely different pay-grades. The $35,000 dollars represents 4% of Stephenson’s salary, while it is a miniscule percentage of Hibbert’s, who signed an expensive multi-year deal this past off-season.
Maybe David Lee will respond and pay the fines for his teammates Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, as both were also slapped with a $35,000 fine for their roles in the altercation as well.
