Sign and Trade? Nash to Knicks could involve Fields
Their is certainly interest for Canadian point guard Steve Nash in New York. While many assume that the Knicks will resign Jeremy Lin and let Nash go elsewhere, there is now news that a sign and trade is in the works to bring Nash to New York.
Yahoo’s Adam Wojnarowski has reported that Phoenix is interested in a sign and trade that would involve a package of Knicks players, including guard Landry Fields. The Knicks are extremely limited financially due to the contracts of Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, and Amar’e Stoudemire, so this seems to be one of the few ways the Knicks could afford a player like Nash.
If this doesn’t occur, it’s likely that the Knicks will resign point guard Jeremy Lin, who was recently awarded Bird rights that will allow the Knicks to exceed the cap to keep him.
It’s been reported that Nash was recently offered 3 years, $36 million from the Toronto Raptors. It is well known that Nash is Canadian, and has expressed interest in playing in Canada. This would certainly be difficult to turn down, but it comes down to this; does Nash think that he could lead the Knicks to a championship?
