Spurs, Boris Diaw agree to three-year deal
The reigning champion San Antonio Spurs have continued to bring back the bench players that made the difference in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. After already re-signing point guard Patty Mills, the Spurs have inked forward Boris Diaw to a three-year, $22.5 million deal, keeping the versatile 6’8, 250 pound forward in San Antonio long-term, per Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski:
Free-agent forward Boris Diaw has reached agreement on a three-year, $22.5 million contract to return to the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The third year of Diaw’s deal is partially guaranteed, sources said. Diaw is guaranteed $18.5 million over the first two years of the deal, sources said.
Diaw was such a crucial part of the Spurs success that it only made sense for the team to bring him back. Additionally, though Diaw has been serviceable in other places, his game has really blossomed in San Antonio, so it was a deal that just made sense for both parties.
I will be very curious to see what kind of intensity the Spurs come with next season after such an emotionally exhausting season this year. Having Diaw back on board certainly doesn’t hurt their cause.
