Report: Steve Nash close to retiring?

Steve Nash has experienced a slew of injuries since parting ways with the Phoenix Suns and their excellent training staff. It’s no secret that the Suns boast one of the best training staffs in professional sports, and the 39-year old Nash has lived in an almost constant state of injury since joining the Los Angeles Lakers prior to last season.

Recent reports are saying that Nash is very close to hanging ’em up, and calling it a career in the NBA.

The latest diagnosis on Nash is nerve root irritation, and he’s expected to miss at least 2-4 weeks with the injury. Nash will turn 40 in February and it seems as if medical retirement may be the best option for the once-great point guard.

Nash is set to make $9.7 million next season, and thoughts around the league are that the money could be the reason for Nash giving it a go, but in the event of being deemed unable to continue playing, Nash would still receive payment for both this season and next.

Father times catches us all, and in the case of Steve Nash it’s particularly difficult to watch. From two-time league MVP, and best passer in the NBA, to a guy who averages six points and four assists per game, when he can play. It’s always hard to watch the greats burn-out. I wish Nash all of the best, but it seems like time to go.
