Timberwolves could have their eye on Anderson Varejao
The Minnesota Timberwolves have made their fair share of noise this offseason after showing they could possibly contend for a playoff spot. They had solid play from the point guard position, as well as their bigs. Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, and Nikola Pekovic had their team playing very well until various injuries led to a late season skid.
They acquired Brandon Roy after he returned from retirement, as well as Chase Buddinger and Andrei Kirilenko to solidify their wing play.
With the number two overall pick a few years ago, the Timberwolves selected forward Derrick Williams out of Arizona in hopes that he could pair up with Kevin Love to provide an elite front court combo. He’s only played one year, but it appears Derrick Williams is on the trading block, with the prize possibly being center Anderson Varejao.
Apparently, Luke Ridnour is on the trading block along with Derrick Williams. Only David Kahn would want to trade someone that he very recently just used a number two overall pick on.
It has long been rumored that Anderson Varejao could be traded from Cleveland, although nothing has happened. A potential lineup of Rubio, Roy, Kirilenko, Love, and Varajeo could be pretty good, with Pekovic, Buddinger, and Barea coming off the bench.
We’ll see if any of this actually materializes. With David Kahn in charge, you can never really rule anything out.
