Toronto Raptors Having A Tough Time Dealing Bargnani?

Trade talks have been swirling around Andrea Bargnani, the former number one overall pick of the Toronto Raptors. The 7 footer certainly hasn’t proved to be worthy of the pick, although his contract may suggest otherwise.

Despite being 7 feet tall, Bargnani has never averaged more than 6.2 rebounds per game. On top of that, his defense has been awful during his time in the NBA. He has a solid perimeter scoring game, but his percentages have fallen off noticeably over the past few seasons.

This all being said, you have to believe that the Raptors would be willing to deal Bargnani. The only problem is that his value has fallen mightily, and the return probably won’t be what Toronto would like. As a matter of fact, it looks as if the Raptors may have to give up an asset just to ship Andrea Bargnani out of town. Via Toronto Sun:

By convincing himself that Bargnani would one day repay his faith in him, Colangelo failed the franchise he has been paid handsomely to direct. Instead of dealing him when he had solid value, Colangelo hung on to the Roman and now, according to league sources, an asset would likely have to be included just to dump the $22.5 million US remaining on his contract.

At this point, you have to question whether or not it’s worth giving up another asset just to dump Bargnani. He’s signed through 2016, and his contract is holding the team hostage from making other moves. Safe to say the team would like to have this pick back. LaMarcus Aldridge went second in the 2006 Draft; think Colangelo would like to have him instead?
