WATCH: Tony Allen connects with MONSTER put-back dunk
When I think of Tony Allen, I generally think of a guy who’s a lock-down defender, a decent jump-shooter, and a hustle player to the definition. I rarely see Allen gracing the top 10 of any highlight reel, but on Saturday night against (who else?) the Charlotte Bobcats, Allen took his resume, and checked an extra experience box. That box was athletic, put-back dunker.
Mike Conley nearly loses the ball, but manages to get it back, and put up a half decent floater over Josh McRoberts. Apparently the Bobcats’ defense forgot that they’re allowed to rebound, box out, and many other crucial components required to attain the ball after a missed shot. Allen flies in, grabs the board, and hammers it home.
The bucket made it 38-35, Memphis, and the energy at The Grind House soared after the extra effort from Tony. Even if Tony hadn’t secured the offensive glass, it appears as if Jon Leuer would have had the board for the Grizzlies anyways. I have a PSA for the Charlotte Bobcats… BOX OUT!
The Grizzlies would roll, 111-89, at home, led by 20 points from Mike Conley. Tony Allen had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists on the night. The Grizzlies (36-26) have won seven of their last 10 games, and seem to be clicking at the right time.
