Wizards fans cheer for chicken sandwiches, despite team losing
Washington Wizards fans haven’t had a lot to cheer about the last few years, but that all changed Saturday when Marvin Williams of the Utah Jazz missed two free throws, which meant that fans could swap their tickets for sandwiches at Chick-fil-A. Too busy cheering, they didn’t care to notice the Wizards were unable to corral the rebound of the second miss. It also seemed the fans could careless that the Wizards lost 83-76 and dropped to 0-8 for the second consecutive season, tying a franchise worst for a start of a season.
The only time the crowd got excited was when Marvin Williams missed two free throws in the fourth quarter, meaning that fans were rewarded with free sandwiches from Chick-fil-A. Fans hugged and celebrated, not even noticing that the Wizards were unable to corral the rebound.
The players even noticed the jubilation taking place in the stands. Jazz power forward Paul Millsap commented on what took place.
“They didn’t get a win; at least they got some sandwiches.”
