Let me start this piece off by saying Paul Pierce has been my favorite basketball player since he entered the league. Fifteen years I’ve rooted on my Celtics and watched “The Truth” materialize into one of the greatest players of this generation. Although I knew a trade was possible, I never really thought he wouldn’t finish his career in Boston. I don’t think Pierce though he wouldn’t either, as he was clearly emotional when he was introduced by his new team, the Brooklyn Nets, alongside Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry.
Pierce has now revealed that he had a two-hour long conversation with Garnett, during which he talked KG into waiving his no-trade clause, allowing the two to go to Brooklyn together. Although it’s obvious Pierce wanted to finish his career in Boston, he saw the inevitable changes coming and wanted Garnett with him for one last shot at a title. I hope when it’s all said and done, Pierce signs a one day contract and still retires a Celtic.
