John Abraham taking ‘necessary steps’ after DUI arrest
Arizona Cardinals linebacker John Abraham was arrested for drunk driving in June. Abraham has not taken part in Cardinals training camp which began last Saturday which has lead fans to speculate as to whether Abraham is seeing treatment in a rehab facility.
On Friday, the Cardinals released a statement from Abraham. In the statement, Abraham said that he knows that he made a mistake and said sorry to the fans, players and staff whom he let down through his actions.
“I understand the significance of my actions,” he said in a statement released by the Cardinals on Friday, “and right now I am taking the necessary steps to handle my personal business. I am very thankful for the support from my family, friends and especially the Cardinals organization during this time in my life,” he said, “I am looking forward to being back with my teammates in the near future.”
Police who arrested Abraham say that his Dodge Challenger had stopped moving in the central lane of a suburban Atlanta road. Abraham smelled of alcohol and failed a breath test.
Abraham recorded 11.5 sacks for the Cardinals in 2013 and eas voted to his fifth career Pro Bowl. The 36-year old is ranked ninth all time for total sacks with 122. The veteran linebacker signed a two-year contract after leaving the Atlanta Falcons. Abraham has also played for the New York Jets.
