New York eyeing Cardinals TE Rob Housler
The Arizona Cardinals will begin their 2014 training camp with four tight ends on their roster. However, they’ll need to make a decision soon, on who to keep and who to release. Even if Arizona opts to carry four tight-ends on their 53 man roster, the future of Tight End Rob Housler and his up and down career with the Cardinals is uncertain. Of course we’ll need to see how he pans out in training camp before making any bold assumptions. One thing is for certain though. He’ll likely be slotted in the #4 position behind John Carlson, Jake Ballard and rookie Troy Niklas. He’s just not the kind of Tight End that stands out in the eyes of Head Coach Bruce Arians. Coach Arians may have inherited Housler, who also enters the final year of his rookie contract, but that doesn’t mean he’ll want to keep him around either.
There just so happens to be an overwhelming amount of uncertainty surrounding the Tight End Position over in New York. With the lack of offensive production Eli Manning had at his disposal last season, a player of Housler’s caliber would certainly be a strong option for the New York Giants if and when he’s released. They were previously speculated as one of few teams interested in becoming a potential trade partner. So if Housler is to hit the free agent market, it would be shocking if the Giants didn’t make a move and jump at the opportunity to fill a void. Although Housler is more of a receiving threat, than a blocking threat, he would provide much more experience than any tight end currently on the Giants roster.
