Tyrann Mathieu, Alameda Ta’amu are moved to the PUP list
In a move that will surprise nobody, the Arizona Cardinals have placed defensive bac Tyrann Mathieu and nose tackle Alameda Ta’amu have been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Unlike the injured reserve list, which is season ending when placed upon it, the PUP list enables the Cardinals to keep one or both players on the list until they are healthy enough to contribute.
Both players are recovering from torn ACL injuries that were suffered late in the 2013 season.
Ta’amu signed a one-year extension in the off-season and has the chance to fight for the starting job in the future if current starter Dan Williams leaves via free agency in 2015. Mathieu was a key player for the Cardinals in 2013 making several key plays as the Cardinals finished 10-6.
Cardinals training camp begins on Saturday.
