Chris Owings named NL Rookie of the Month of April
— MLB (@MLB) May 5, 2014
Chris Owings took the starting shortstop position and ran with it.
Owings came out of the gates swinging, as he hit .313 with 6 extra-base hits, and scored 7 runs with 4 stolen bases. Those numbers earned him the honors of National League Rookie of the Month for April.
Not only has Owings been impressive at the plate, but he has showed great range defensively and has shown a lot of improvement with his glove. It’s encouraging to see, since one of the concerns with Owings when he was working his way through the Diamondbacks minor league system was his defense.
Through May 4th, Owings is hitting .313 with six doubles, has scored 8 runs, and has a .359 OBP.
