If this isn’t the Diamondbacks’ season in a nutshell, I don’t know what is.
After going on the disabled list for the first time in his career, the Diamondbacks announce that pitcher Bronson Arroyo will need Tommy John surgery to repair a damaged UCL via their official Twitter account.
Arroyo, 37, was one of the few bright spots in the Diamondbacks starting rotation this year, going 7-4 with a 4.08 ERA including one complete-game shutout. Bronson said that he had been pitching through a lot of pain in his last few starts, but apparently we didn’t know just how much pain, according to MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert:
#Dbacks Bronson Arroyo says an MRI last month showed his UCL had completely come off the bone.

At 37-years-old and only signed through 2015 with the D-backs, you have to wonder whether or not this injury could be career-ending for Arroyo. Either way, we wish Bronson a speedy recovery and hope to see him back some time next year.
