D-backs’ Miguel Montero makes NL All-Star team, replaces injured Yadier Molina

Following Miguel Montero’s terrible 2013 season, there are two types of people that predicted that he would make the All-Star team in 2014: one, liars, and two, no one.

Miggy will replace the injured Yadier Molina in the 2014 MLB All-Star Game in Minneapolis, according to Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic. It will be Montero’s second All-Star appearance, as he also made the team in 2011, when it was played in his home park at Chase Field.

After hitting .230 with 42 RBIs and 11 homers in 2013, Montero has already matched his home run total at 11 and has surpassed his RBI total with 52. He also is hitting .265 with a .346 OBP. Montero leads all Major League catchers in RBIs this season.

Miggy will join his D-backs teammate Paul Goldschmidt, who is also making his second All-Star appearance, on the National League squad. Despite the Diamondbacks poor record, it is very nice to see two D-backs get the recognition they deserve.
